Sandalwood Community Food Pantry thankful for Caring Coins grant

info@islandpacket.comApril 15, 2013

The Sandalwood Community Food Pantry's board of directors, volunteers and, most important, our clients, give thanks and praise to the Hargray Caring Coins Foundation for blessing our pantry with a most generous grant on April 8.

Caring Coins Foundation was established by Hargray in 2003 and provides support to nonprofit organizations in Beaufort, Bluffton and Hardeeville and on Hilton Head Island. Hargray customers voluntarily round up their monthly bill and the spare "change" collected is disbursed quarterly by an independent board of directors and the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry.

The Sandalwood Community Food Pantry has been blessed once again in receiving a grant allowing us to continue to nourish the bodies, minds and spirits of all who hunger here on Hilton Head. The joy that filled our hearts overflowed into a room that held so many worthy and compassionate causes dedicated to a community that cares for the sometimes invisible, unknown, neglected and forgotten.

We are so very fortunate to live or vacation in a place that many call paradise. Yet those less fortunate only experience a paradise lost in the midst of suffering and hunger. We give thanks to Hargray, for your Caring Coins, compassion and the contributions you give so freely. Know that love is alive and well on Hilton Head Island.

Blessings, peace and a prayer that no one on Hilton Head Island ever have to go to bed hungry again, because hunger hurts.
