Students interested in science, math and technology can now apply for GoSciTech, a week-long residential summer camp for rising eighth-, ninth- and 10th-graders at the Governor's School for Science and Mathematics in Hartsville.

The camp will be offered June 16-22, June 23-29 and July 7-13. Students can attend for up to three weeks and focus on a unique area of interest each week. There will be 25 science and technology courses offered, such as Game Theory, Science of Music, Engineering, the Search for Life Out There, CSI, Codes & Cryptography, Marine Biology, and Science & the Law. Courses are taught by governor's school faculty, college and university professors and professionals.

"Students coming to camp will to be challenged by STEM courses that make them think 'outside the box,' " GoSciTech Director Susan Engelhardt said in a news release. "Many of the courses also allow students to leave 'the box.' Students can camp for a week in the Appalachians, tromp Folly Beach for crabs, visit the McLeod Nuclear imaging lab, or analyze the acoustics of the new FMU Performing Arts Center."

Costs range from $675 to $750, including room and board.

Admission is based on academic achievement, and students should have experience in science, math, computer science, technology or engineering.

The application deadline is May 15. Scholarship are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis; that application deadline is Monday.

To apply: scgssm.org/goscitech or call 843-383-3958.
