Pankake's walk-off homer lifts South Carolina over The Citadel, 6-5

COLUMBIA -- Joey Pankake led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run to left-center field to lift the eighth-ranked South Carolina baseball team to a 6-5 win over The Citadel on Tuesday night at Carolina Stadium.

Pankake's homer, his sixth of the season, came after The Citadel rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game.

Connor Bright went 3 for 4, and Dante Rosenberg was 2 for 4 with a home run for South Carolina (27-7), which finished with 13 hits. Pankake, Grayson Greiner and Tanner English had two hits apiece.

Joe Jackson was 3 for 4, and Mason Davis and Johnathan Stokes each recorded two hits for The Citadel (17-17).

Right-hander Curt Britt earned the win for South Carolina in just a third of an inning.

Bulldog right-hander David Rivera got his first loss of the year, pitching 1 1-3 innings.

South Carolina opens a three-game SEC series at Florida on Thursday.
