One person was airlifted after a two-car crash on U.S. 278 Monday afternoon.


One person was injured and air lifted to the hospital in a two-car crash on U.S. 278 Monday afternoon.

One person was trapped after the crash, which occured at about 3 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the highway near Plantation Drive. It took about 15 minutes for Bluffton Township Fire District firefighters to free the person using the Jaws of Life, said spokesman Capt. Randy Hunter.

A LifeStar helicopter took one person to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.

One eastbound lane of U.S. 278 was blocked during the crash.

Bluffton Police Department is investigating the cause of the wreck.
