Annual Jean Ribaut Cup sets sail today in Beaufort

The Jean Ribaut Cup will be held Saturday in Port Royal Sound.

The main event of Beaufort Race Weekend will feature two races open to monohull boats 18 feet and longer. Approximately 20 boats are expected to compete in the regatta. An awards dinner will be held at Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club after the racing, which starts at 11 a.m.

The weekend was scheduled to start with an informal PHRF race Friday from Dataw Island to Beaufort, followed by a cocktail party at Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club.

After the Cup, racing continues Sunday with a PHRF race in the Beaufort River. And the weekend closes with a Monday race from Beaufort to Dataw.

When: Saturday, warning gun at 11 a.m. Awards dinner at Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club at 6 p.m.

Details: Twenty boats are expected for the Jean Ribaut Cup. Other PHRF races will be held Sunday and Monday. On Sunday, a race in the Beaufort River starts at noon.
