Stolen handgun, marijuana found in stop

A man left behind a stolen handgun and marijuana when he fled from a traffic stop Wednesday in Beaufort, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic offense at Stanley and County Shed roads shortly after 4 p.m., according to an incident report.

After the man fled, a search of the vehicle and immediate area turned up the gun and marijuana.

The suspect is described as a black male between the ages of 25 and 30, about 5-feet-11, 175 pounds, with light facial hair and a goatee.
