Drugs found in Beaufort County jail search

Crack cocaine and marijuana were discovered when a Bluffton man arrested for driving under suspension and fleeing police March 27 was searched at the county jail, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Derrick Jerome Roberts, 24, was charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, simple possession of marijuana, driving under suspension, introduction of contraband into jail and failure to stop for blue lights. He was released after posting $37,725 bond.

According to the incident report, investigators knew Roberts was driving with a suspended license and pulled him over near U.S. 278 and Salt Marsh Drive in Bluffton. Roberts attempted to flee but was arrested.

During a search at the Beaufort County Detention Center, about 8.6 grams of crack cocaine and one gram of marijuana were discovered on Roberts, the report said.
