Cartoon trivializes resurrection's importance

info@islandpacket.comApril 4, 2013

The "Happy Easter" editorial cartoon published March 31 exhibits a callous disregard of a sacred Christian celebration of the resurrection of Christ.

Yes, the empty tomb is a triumph over death, but the depicted caricature of a disgruntled "death" trivializes the magnitude of the miracle. We live in a republic which recognizes your right to freedom of expression. Respect for the religious foundations of the principles upon which this republic were founded rather than testing the limits of this right would seem more a healthy support of the press.

While the Christians among us would not react as the "fringe" Muslims have to such depictions of Mohammed, we are offended, and we seek a more respectful treatment of our beliefs.
