Beekeepers urged to cover hives

info@islandpacket.comApril 3, 2013

Beekeepers living within five miles of Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island are urged to keep their hives covered April 8 to 11 when aerial insecticide spraying is scheduled.

Spraying will occur about two hours before sundown, weather permitting, to control mosquito and sand flea populations, according to a base spokeswoman.

The EPA-approved insecticides present no threat to humans, plants or animals.
