Sanford, Haley speak on phone following his win in GOP runoff

First Congressional District nominee Mark Sanford and Gov. Nikki Haley spoke on the phone Wednesday.

While Sanford was the person who first encouraged Haley to run for governor, the relationship between the two Republicans has reportedly been strained in the last couple of years.

"Mark Sanford was a conservative fighter in Congress long before most anyone else," said Rob Godfrey, Haley's spokesman. "Lowcountry taxpayers deserve a congressman who will look out for their bottom line on key issues like debt reduction, Obamacare, and the NLRB, and Mark Sanford can be counted on to do that."

Sanford faces Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch in a May 7 general election.
