Possible social security card scam in Beaufort

info@islandpacket.comApril 2, 2013

After receiving a report of a possible Social Security card scam, the city of Beaufort Police Department is cautioning residents not to give personal information over the phone.

A resident received a phone call that a new Social Security card was being issued. The caller asked for banking and identifying information, which the resident did not provide.

So far, only one report has been made of such a phone call, but police want to alert residents to be on the lookout for similar calls.
