Burton homicide remains under investigation

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office continues to seek the public's assistance in collecting information about the Easter-evening fatal shooting of Darryl McArthur Greene, 40, on Staffwood Road.

Greene was shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene by Beaufort County EMS.

Although Greene had been with a group of people at the time of his death -- in a public area on the side of the road -- investigators are learning little from witnesses, Lt. Robin McIntosh said.

"At this point, we're just encouraging anyone with any information to contact Crimestoppers because they can do it anonymously," she said. "We understand people not wanting to get involved, especially in something involving gun violence, but we also don't want this to turn into retaliation."

The Sheriff's Office has a long list of people they are talking with, and McIntosh said Greene's death might be linked to his extensive criminal history.

Anyone with information about the incident should call Staff Sgt. Fraser at 843-255-3416 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC (1-888-247-6372).
