Beaufort man arrested for cocaine trafficking, gun charges

A Beaufort man was arrested after a gun, cocaine and marijuana were discovered Friday in his car by Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies.

Brian Dewayne Montgomery, 31, was charged with trafficking cocaine, simple possession of marijuana, unlawful carrying of a firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He is being held on $90,620 bond at the Beaufort County Detention Center, according to the jail log.

On Friday, drug investigators stopped a 2008 Nissan Altima near Laurel Bay Road, according to the Sheriff's Office. A strong odor suspected to be marijuana was coming from the car, and a drug dog indicated there were drugs in the car.

About 25 grams of cocaine, about 8 grams of marijuana, a handgun and various drug paraphernalia were found in the car, according to the Sheriff's Office.
