Prep Notebook, March 29: Bluffton, Hilton Head High host baseball tournaments next week

A pair of spring break baseball tournaments are slated to begin Monday, as Bluffton High hosts its latest edition of the BATRUP invitational while Hilton Head Island High prepares for the Seahawk Invitational.

Bluffton, Battery Creek, St. Joseph's Catholic, Wade Hampton, Dixie and Lawrence will all take part in the BATRUP tournament, which gets under way at 1 p.m. Monday. The four-day event will conclude with a championship game slated for 7 p.m. Thursday

The Seahawk Invitational features eight teams spanning four states.

Hilton Head High, Hillcrest, Walhalla and Fort Dorchester are the the South Carolina teams, while Pulaski County (Ky.), Corbin (Ky.), Richmond County (N.C.) and Dobyns Bennett (Tenn.) are also participating.

The tournament, which fans can attend for $5 per game, begins Monday at 10 a.m. when Pulaski County and Hillcrest face off. The Seahawks will play in the nightcap against Corbin at 7 p.m.

The championship game is slated for Thursday at 6 p.m.

EAGLES SOFTBALL BARBECUE FRIDAY

Beaufort High School is hosting its eighth annual softball barbecue during Friday's home games against Region 8-AAAA rival Bluffton High School.

Barbecue plates are served at the game and are $8 for adults, $5 for children.

This is the major fundraiser for the JV and varsity teams. All proceeds go to the purchase of equipment and uniforms.

The JV game starts at 5 p.m., while the varsity first pitch is around 7 p.m.

HHH ASSISTANT FINED, SUSPENDED

Hilton Head Island High assistant girls lacrosse coach Billie Marshall was fined $100 and suspended for one game as a result of an ejection from the Seahawks' loss to Bluffton on Wednesday, March 20, according to Beaufort County School District spokesman Jim Foster.

Marshall served the suspension, sitting out Bluffton's game on Saturday.
