Find out what restaurants will be at the Hilton Head Seafood Fest

The Hilton Head Seafood Fest is right around the corner (April 5 and 6 at Shelter Cove Community Park), and the organizers just released the lineup for the day.

In case you’ve never been, the fest is now a two-day event featuring seafood samples from some of the area’s best restaurants. The Iron Chef competition pits local chefs against each other in a cookoff on April 6. Also swinging by this year is The Better Show, which will be filming a segment.

From a release:

“The Hilton Head Island Seafood Fest will take place Friday, April 5, 2013, 5-8pm, and Saturday, April 6, 11am-5pm, at Shelter Cove Community Park.

The sixth annual Hilton Head Island Seafood Fest, sponsored by the David M. Carmines Memorial Foundation and Hilton Head Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, features not only the best seafood in town, but plenty of entertainment, including: live music, a Kid's Zone, an Iron Chef-style competition, Famous Crab Races, a silent auction, a bocce ball tournament and a whole lot more.

The popular, family-friendly event serves as the foundation’s annual fundraiser with proceeds – from admissions, beverage sales, restaurant purveyor fees, artists’ fees and auction funds – benefiting the American Cancer Society, the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center and the Island Recreation Scholarship Fund.

Admission is $5; free for kids younger than 12. Attendees can purchase food/drink tickets at the entrance and redeem them at the various booths.

Participating restaurants include: Alexander’s, American Culinary Federation, Black Marlin, Bluffton Oyster Co., The Chart House, Cool Breeze, The Crazy Crab, Gillan's Fresh Seafood & Oyster Bar, Hana Sushi, Hudson's Seafood House on the Docks, Island Kettle Corn, Kurama Japanese Restaurant, The Old Oyster Factory, Pinot Gelato, Red Fish, Skull Creek Boathouse, Street Meet, among others.

Six talented, local chefs will compete in the “Iron Chef” event, modeled after the TV show of the same name. Competing chefs will be presented with identical “mystery baskets” containing a variety of ingredients, including two local seafood items, and each chef will be allotted one hour to create an appetizer and an entrée. This year’s local chefs include: Chef Nick Fazio from Robert Irvine’s eat!, Chef Eric Seaglund from The Chart House, Chef Keith Jodway from Hugo’s Seafood & Steakhouse, Chef Kevin Cavanaugh from Windmill Harbour, Chef Anish Gopinath from Fusion and Chef Peggy Beck from The Joyful Palate.

The Better Show, a daily, national television show, will be filming a segment called “License to Spill”. The segment will feature Hilton Head Island, the Seafood Fest, and Chef Patrick Ward from Hudson's Seafood House on the Docks cooking up seafood gumbo.

Attendees are encouraged to bicycle to the event, but otherwise can park at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, the Mall at Shelter Cove, along Shelter Cove Lane or at the old Bank of America building. Handicapped parking is available inside Shelter Cove Harbour Community Park. Golf carts will shuttle people from the lots to the park on April 5; buses and golf carts will shuttle people on April 6.
