Former 1st district rival Hoffman endorses Sanford

Former Gov. Mark Sanford was endorsed Tuesday by Jonathan Hoffman, a homeland security expert and unsuccessful GOP candidate in last week's primary who lost to Sanford.

This marks the sixth Republican primary rival to endorse Sanford.

In a statement, Hoffman said: "During the primary campaign, I consistently talked with voters about the need for the 1st District to elect an experienced conservative leader who understands that our greatest threat as a nation comes not from without, but from our own debt and deficits. Not only does Mark understand that, he has a clear record in Congress and as Governor of working to address this threat with meaningful spending cuts and standing up to special interests."
