Students at Hilton Head Island High School evacuated the school this morning because of a false fire alarm, according to an email to parents from school principal Amanda O'Nan.

The email said the building was evacuated for just a few minutes. The incident occured at about 8:30 a.m.

"It was not a planned fire drill, but a false alarm from a sprinkler system device," O'Nan wrote. "The first department responded, and the students were able to re-enter the building within a few minutes."
