Megan Atkinson's school record in the javelin was the highlight of the weekend for the University of South Carolina Beaufort track and field team at the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia.

Atkinson's throw of 108 feet, 2 inches, topped her own school mark and was good for a ninth-place finish in the event. it was the only school record for USCB in difficult weather conditions.

The Sand Sharks had two more top-10 showings on the women's side, with Ty'Chelle Freeman placing fifth in the shot put with a throw of 42-8, and the 4x100-meter relay team of Becky Hayden, Ciera Love, Pamela Robinson and Ashlee Eady finishing ninth in 53.62 seconds.

USCB is back in action next weekend in Jacksonville at the North Florida Invitational.
