Info on candidates missing from coverage

A key duty of the press is to inform the public on governmental items.

The Island Packet failed to do this in the 1st Congressional District race. To determine how to vote in Tuesday's primary, I found the list of candidates on Wikipedia, searched online for each of the candidates and voted based on that information.

The Packet could have emailed each of the candidates to tell them how much space they had and then published information on each. The story about former Gov. Mark Sanford leading Republican candidates was counter-productive. It disadvantaged the other candidates or suppressed the vote due to apathy.
