Jim Hewitt, water services supervisor at the Hilton Head Public Service District, has been named State Water Operator of the Year by the Water Environment Association of South Carolina.

The award is given for excellence in water quality and water-system maintenance, safety and cost savings, among other criteria.

Hewitt has worked for the district since 2001. He supervises the operation and maintenance of the drinking-water distribution and treatment systems.
