Prep roundup, March 19: Seahawks throw perfect game, no-hitter aganst Stall

Hilton Head Island High School's pitchers had a field day in Monday's home doubleheader sweep of region softball foe Stall.

Whitney Halley struck out 13 in a five-inning, 24-0 perfect game in Game 1, while Caylee Osborne tossed a three-inning no-hitter in the 18-0 Game 2 win.

Halley was no slouch at the plate, either. She went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs in her win, while going 3 for 4 with three RBIs in Osborne's gem.

In Game 1, Kensley Phillips was 5 for 5 with two triples and five RBIs, while Macy Moore went 3 for 4 with four RBIs.

In Game 2, Osborne helped her cause by going 2 for 2 with an RBI.

The Seahawks (2-6, 2-0 Region 6-AAA) are at James Island on Wednesday.

Wade Hampton 20, Whale Branch 7: Kenyada Moultrie went 3 for 4 for the Warriors with two RBIs, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Jessica Shipley was 2 for 2 with a double, two walks, two runs scored and three stolen bases, while Cassey Lewis was 1 for 2 with two RBIs, a run and a steal.

Whale Branch (1-4, 1-1 Region 5-A) is at home at 5 p.m. Wednesday against Allendale-Fairfax.

  • Ridgeland-Hardeeville 16, Woodland 6: The Jaguars improved to 4-2, 2-2 Region 5-A.

    BASEBALL

    Beaufort High 4, Stratford 1: Zach Brown went 2 for 4 with and RBI and Stephen Baggett homered and scored two runs to propel the Eagles.

    Winning pitcher Brady Cormier pitched six innings for Beaufort High, striking out three.

    The Eagles (2-4) open region play Wednesday against visiting Fort Dorchester.

    Battery Creek 26, Garrett Tech 0, 5 innings: Thomas Smith, Michael Jennings, Jason Padgett combined on a no-hitter for the Dolphins.

    Battery Creek's Craig Capano had two hits, three RBIs and scored two runs. Brandon Gray and William Howell each had one hit, two walks and scored three times.

    The Dolphins (4-3, 1-0) travel to Ridgeland-Hardeeville on Friday.

    Ridgeland-Hardeeville 18, Burke 4: Daquan Mitchell struck out 10 in his five innings to pick up the win for the Jaguars (5-2, 1-0 Region 5-A).

    At the plate, Shawn Wilson was 2 for 2 with three walks, four runs scored and an RBI. Tyler Jones went 2 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs.

    GIRLS LACROSSE

    Bishop England 19, Hilton Head Island 5: Haley Matousek scored twice in the Seahawks' road loss.

    Carson Kendrick, Jess Morris and Katie Bautista also scored for Hilton Head High.

    Michelle Drayton and Sharia Valdez split time as the Seahawks' goalkeeper.

    GIRLS SOCCER

    Hilton Head Christian 8, Bible Baptist 0: Goalkeeper Meghan Gillis played the first half and Logan Cherry came on for the second half as the Eagles earned a shutout victory.

    Lexi Lainhart scored three goals to lead Hilton Head Christian, and Allison Meeder had a pair of penalty-kick goals. Rebecca Meeder, Audrey Bensch and Alyssa Layne also scored for Hilton Head Christian.

    The Eagles (6-3) resume region play Thursday against visiting Pinewood Prep.

    BOYS TENNIS

    Hilton Head Prep 4, Hilton Head Island 2: The Dolphins improve to 3-0, while the Seahawks fall to 1-1.
