A man told Beaufort County deputies he was simply trying to clean up his yard Sunday on Blacksmtih Circle when his fire got out of control, charring his lawn and causing about $750 in damage to a shed.

Deputies arrived to find the Burton Fire District responding to the blaze shortly after noon, according to an incident report. The man was charged with violating county ordinance for burning within 75 feet of a structure.
