The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Sunday shooting that injured a Burton man.
Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies were called to Milledge Village Road at about 7:15 p.m. after someone anonymously reported shots had been fired. As deputies searched the area, they received a report that a gunshot victim had arrived at the Beaufort Memorial Hospital emergency room.
The victim, 35, was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm. He was uncooperative, according to a news release, and provided only vague details of the shooting. He said he had been shot by someone he knew during an exchange of fire in the area of Milledge Village Road.
He did not provide any further details or elaborate on a motive.
Deputies found a vehicle in a ditch near 66 Milledge Village Road that is believed to have been involved in the shooting. The vehicle had multiple bullet holes and large amounts of blood in and around it.
Investigators have identified a person of interest, according to the release, but no arrects have been made.
