South Carolina shuts out Missouri, which then returns the favor

South Carolina senior left-hander Nolan Belcher tossed 8 1-3 scoreless innings and combined with senior left-hander Tyler Webb for a five-hit shutout as the Gamecocks won the opening game of a doubleheader Saturday at Missouri, 2-0.

Missouri's Keaton Steele earned the win in the nightcap, helping to shut out the Gamecocks 4-0. He worked six scoreless innings and allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out seven. USC starter Colby Holmes (1-2) allowed three runs in 1 1-3 innings.

The Gamecocks (17-3 overall, 2-1 SEC) are back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Citadel.
