Recreation Briefs, March 17: Low Country Blacktip volleyball team 2nd in Atlanta

The Low Country Blacktip Volleyball club's under-17 National team finished second last weekend at the prestigious Peachtree Classic in Atlanta.

The Blacktips won six straight matches before being narrowly defeated in the championship game against the Pensacola (Fla.) Volleyball Club, 25-23, 12-25, 15-13.

Members of the U17 National team are: Melissa Bornstein, McKenzie Cooler, Sierra Davis, Cameron Dean, Hannah Edelman, Jordan Franklin, Brantley Herrington, Haley Kohler and Mallory Lewis.

The Low Country Blacktips are gearing up for their biggest tournament of the season, the Palmetto Regional Championships, next weekend in Charlotte. The age bracket winners of that tournament will advance to the national finals in Dallas in June.

BATTERY CREEK CLUB WRESTLERS COMPETE IN COLUMBIA

Tommy Bearden of the Battery Creek Lowcountry Wrestling Club returned with a first-place finish in his weight class after the Lower Richland Freestyle tournament Saturday in Columbia.

Battery Creek wrestlers earning second-place showings were Liam Payne, Joseph Cuevas and Adler Schneider. Finishing third were Charlie Castro, Michael Schramm and Cooper Kaminsky.
