Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner is asking residents to support the S.C. Sheriff's Association by becoming honorary members.
Membership appeals are being issued this month, according to a news release. Individuals can join the voluntary program starting at $25, while businesses can show their support for a $50 contribution.
The funding provides technical resources, training and legislative support for the Sheriffs' Association, which works to shape state policy on public safety and crime prevention.
The association, made up of South Carolina's 46 sheriffs, also provides training and education.
The membership drive has become increasingly important as government funding becomes harder to secure, the release said.
People who do not receive a membership appeal in the mail or who would like more information can contact the Sheriffs' Association at 803-772-1101 or visit sheriffsc.com.
Contributions are tax deductible.
