Prep Roundup, March 13: Beaufort High scores 2 in 7th to down Hilton Head Island

SOFTBALL

Beaufort High 2, Hilton Head Island High 0: With the game tied at 0 in the seventh, Michelle Brown singled with two outs and stole second. Natalie Moore and Mari Cook each followed with RBI hits to plate the Eagles' runs.

Jenny Mullins hurled a shutout for the Eagles (11-3), striking out eight and surrendering two hits ans three walks.

Chelsea Welty had two hits for Beaufort High, which hosts Battery Creek on Monday.

Whitney Halley went seven innings for the Seahawks, striking out nine and surrendering two earned runs.

Aileen Moore and Halley each had two hits for Hilton Head Island (0-4), which plays at 4 p.m. today on the road at Colleton County.

Whale Branch 23, Bethune-Bowman 2, 2 innings: Ciera Courtney went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Jessica Shipley homered, while Marrisa Roberts was 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs.

Autumn Moon was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Olivia Walker earned her first win, striking out two in two innings.

The Warriors (1-2) host Branchville on Thursday.

BASEBALL

Porter-Gaud 4, Hilton Head Christian 3: Luke Higgs took the loss for the Eagles, allowing four runs, three earned, in six innings. He struck out four.

Higgs and Reese Dolyniuk each went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Eagles (3-2, 0-1 SCISAA Region 3-AAA). Hilton Head Christian hosts Christchurch Prep (Va.) at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Whale Branch 20, Bethune-Bowman 1: Timothy Campbell threw a four-inning no-hitter, striking out four for the Warriors (1-2, 1-0 Region 5-A).

At the plate, Malik Fields was 3 for 3 with two triples and four RBIs. Jay Delaney added two steals and two runs scored, while Campbell doubled and drove in a pair.

Whale Branch hosts Branchville at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Hilton Head Prep 13, Thomas Heyward Academy 3 (6 innings): Randy Young got the win for Prep, holding Thomas Heyward to two hits over five innings while striking out four.

Tyler Fox led Prep at the plate, going 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Marcus Hindal was 2 for 3 with three runs scored. Jake Martin also scored three runs. Young went 1 for 2 with a pair of RBIs, and James Leonard was 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Dolphins (4-2), who play at First Baptist at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Ryan Day and Seth Jones had the only hits for the Rebels.

BOYS SOCCER

Hilton Head Island 1, Stall 0 -- HHH won 3-0 on PKs: Goalkeeper Conner Goulet saved all three of Stall's penalty kick attempts, while the Seahawks -- Chip Tremarelli, Eliot McPherson and Blake Bishop -- hit their first three for the win.

"I don't know if I've ever seen that," Seahawks coach Wayne Quinlan said. "All three were framed, none were misses, all were saves. It was pretty incredible."

Hilton Head Island (5-1, 1-0 Region 8-AAA) is at James Island on Friday.

Bluffton 4, Ashley Ridge 2: Julio Lopez, Akeel Crooks, Omar Govea and Davis Rosenblum scored goals, and keeper Kevin Millan made five saves to help the Bobcats win their first Region 8-AAAA match.

Bluffton (3-2 overall, 1-0 region) play at Battery Creek at 7 p.m. Friday.

Hilton Head Prep 1, Northwood 0: Will Peterkin scored the game-winner in the 88th minute, assisted by Archer Brooks, to push the dolphins to 2-0.

Zen Wiggins made seven saves in goal for the shutout.

Hilton Head Prep plays at Wilson Hall on Friday.

Ridgeland-Hardeeville 2, Battery Creek 1 -- RHHS won 4-3 on PKs: Martin Sotelo hit the winner in the penalty kick shootout to send the Jaguars to 3-0, 2-0 in Region 6-AA.

Battery Creek's goal in regulation came from Oscar Terrablanca, assisted by William Lopez. Ridgeland-Hardeeville got its only goal from Alex Morales.

Miguel Mejia had six saves for Battery Creek (1-2, 1-1), which hosts Bishop England on Thursday. No. 10 Ridgeland-Hardeeville hosts No. 1 Academic Magnet on Thursday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Hilton Head Island 11, Stall 0: Samantha Wammock and Alex Vinson combined for the shutout in goal for the Seahawks (4-1, 1-0).

Beaufort High 1, Savannah County Day 1: Claire Martin scored the Eagles' goal.

Kayla King had five saves in goal for the Eagles (1-1-1), who play Friday at Fort Dorchester.

  • Battery Creek 10, Ridgeland-Hardeeville 0: Tabitha Spurlock earned her first shutout of the season in goal for the Dolphins (2-0).

    Hilton Head Prep 11, Northwood 0: Halie Parker led the Dolphins with six goals.

    Also scoring for Hilton Head Prep (2-0, 2-0 SCISAA Region 3-AAA) were Abby Kandel (2), Hannah Parker, Megan Frederick and Catherine Sheehan.

    The Dolphins host Ben Lippen on Friday.

    Battery Creek 7, Colleton County 0: The Dolphins picked up their first win of the young season.

    Battery Creek (1-2) plays again at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Hilton Head Island High School.
