Author Jack G. Shaheen will offer insights into his lifelong struggle to correct negative stereotypes of Arabs in Hollywood films, television shows and popular culture, during an address at 5:30 p.m. March 25 at the University of South Carolina Beaufort's Gateway to Hilton Head campus.
Shaheen's presentation is part of an exhibit entitled "A is for Arabs" that reveals and critiques the stereotypical portraits of Arabs and Muslims in U.S. popular culture, including images from the Shaheen's archive at New York University. The exhibit is March 18-31 in the library on the Gateway to Hilton Head Campus.
Shaheen's research led to four books, including the award-winning book and film, "Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People."
