RALEIGH, N.C. -- Thomas Brittle's grand slam in the second inning, coupled with clutch pitching that stranded 15 runners, lifted Clemson to a 7-4 win over eighth-ranked North Carolina State on Saturday at Doak Field.
The Tigers (9-4 overall, 2-0 ACC) took a 2-0 series lead despite being outhit 16-6 on Saturday. Clemson took advantage of nine walks and two hit-by-pitches.
Jay Baum had two hits for the Tigers, Brittle reached base four times, and Garrett Boulware earned three walks.
Kyle Schnell earned his first win as a Tiger by pitching 2 2-3 scoreless innings in relief. Matt Campbell pitched a hitless ninth for his fourth save of the season.
Brett Austin was one of six Wolfpack players with multiple hits, as he went 3 for 5 with a double and two runs.
Starter Ethan Ogburn took the loss for N.C. State (11-4, 0-2), giving up two hits, four runs and two walks in one inning.
Clemson and N.C. State will play the finale of the three-game series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
