COLUMBIA -- Sixth-ranked South Carolina pounded out 13 hits, including a pair of home runs from Connor Bright and Joey Pankake, as the Gamecocks defeated Rider 9-5 on Saturday afternoon in game two of a three-game series.
Pankake, Bright and Chase Vergason each had two hits and two RBIs for the Gamecocks (12-2). Dante Rosenberg and Shon Carson each went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI.
Joel Seddon earned the win in one inning of relief. Senior left-hander Adam Westmoreland got his first save of the year, throwing 3 2-3 scoreless innings without allowing a hit. He struck out three.
Starter Kurt Sowa took the loss, giving up eight runs on seven hits in 3 1-3 innings for Rider (6-3).
The series concludes at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
