Lowcountry native Candice Glover advances to Top 10 on 'American Idol'

"American Idol" winner Candice Glover will return to Beaufort for a concert Sept. 14, according to sources.

For Candice Glover, being a contestant on "American Idol" has been a double-edge sword.

On the one hand, she's chasing her dream of becoming the next "Idol" and furthering her music career; on the other, the 23-year-old misses the comfort and familiarity of life on St. Helena Island.

"You don't want to (get sent) home, but you want to see your family at the same time," Glover said about the lengthy process of trying to make it to the "Idol" finale. "Sometimes, going back to the hotel room ... you just want to go to your own bed."

It's going to be at least another week until she sees her own bed again.

Glover impressed the judges Tuesday when she sang "Ordinary People," by John Legend, and received enough votes from voters to become one of the top 10 contestants of season 12 of "American Idol."

After it was announced that Glover had made it to the top 10, she sang "I'm Goin' Down," by Mary J. Blige as a victory song.

"This girl can really sing, in case anyone was wondering," Randy Jackson said to a tearful Glover, who was overwhelmed with emotion.

She said elimination nights are always difficult -- even on the contestants who make it through to the next round.

"It's hard. I miss a lot of the people who have been eliminated," Glover said in a recent interview about contestants who had become her friends this season.

She said she is especially close with contestants Burnell Taylor and Curtis Finch Jr., both of whom advanced to the top 10 as well.

This is Glover's third season as a contestant on "American Idol." However, the first two seasons she did not make it past the early rounds of the show. Making it to the top 20 was a milestone for her; being voted to the top 10 is yet another.

Tuesday night's vote means that Glover will be on the American Idol LIVE! concert tour this summer. She will perform again next week along with the other "Idol" finalists on from 8 to 10 p.m. Wednesday. The results show will be from 8 to 9 p.m. Thursday. One contestant will be eliminated every week until the finale.
