Clemson tops Wofford, 9-2; South Carolina blasts Ball State, 14-4

Clemson 9, Wofford 2

CLEMSON -- Jay Baum and Shane Kennedy both went 3 for 3 and freshman Steven Duggar added a career-high four RBIs to lead Clemson to a 9-2 victory over Wofford on Wednesday.

The Tigers (7-4) won their 14th game in a row over Wofford (7-6).

Freshman left-hander Matthew Crownover (1-0) earned his first career win by tossing five strong innings. Hilton Head Prep grad Patrick Andrews and Brody Koerner combined to pitch the final four innings without allowing an earned run.

Dominick Del Monte (0-2), the first of seven Terrier pitchers, suffered the loss.

South Carolina 14, Ball State 4

COLUMBIA -- Sixth-ranked South Carolina scored six runs in the first three innings and batted around to score seven more in the bottom of the eighth inning on the way to a win over Ball State at Carolina Stadium.

Eight of nine position starters had at least one hit for South Carolina (10-2). Joey Pankake went 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs. Max Schrock was 3 for 5 with two runs, two RBIs and three stolen bases.

Reliever Patrick Sullivan worked 3 2-3 innings to earn the win.

Sean Godfrey went 3 for 5, and Blake Beemer was 2 for 5 to lead Ball State (5-6) at the plate.
