Former Governor Mark Sanford was endorsed Wednesday by Beaufort County Council Chairman Paul Sommerville.
Already, Sen. Tom Davis, R-Beaufort, and former state Sen. Scott Richardson have endorsed Sanford, as well as former chairwoman of the Beaufort County Republican Party Rachel Buie, Beaufort County Councilman Jerry Stewart, and Joe Fragale, commissioner for the S.C. Human Affairs Commission.
"Mark is the kind of leader we need in Congress to face the financial challenges confronting our nation," Sommerville said. "Mark has shown courage and conviction during his time in office, even in the face of heavy opposition. His insistence on putting taxpayers first may have ruffled feathers at times, but it has always paid dividends for the people of South Carolina."
Sommerville has served on County Council since 2007, and as chairman since earlier this year.
