A tight game went Bluffton High School's way Monday as the Bobcats earned a 2-1 baseball win over Battery Creek.

Bluffton pitchers overcame a bout of wildness. Battery Creek had five players hit by pitches in the loss.

Clyve Parker drove in Thomas Smith with the lone run as the Dolphins dropped their season opener.

Battery Creek opens the home portion of its schedule Wednesday against Hilton Head High.

BOYS GOLF

Bluffton: The Bobcats finished fifth out of 12 teams with a 324 total at the Outback Invitational in Aiken.

Alec Weary led Bluffton with a 76, followed by Wesley Long (77), Drew Weary (81) and Brandi Hammonds (90)

The Bobcats next is at Lady's Island Country Club on Wednesday.

BOYS TENNIS

Hilton Head Christian 9, St. Andrews 0: The Eagles opened the season with a sweep, including 6-0, 6-0 wins for Cameron Clark at No. 3 singles, Walker Wood at No. 4 and Tyler Hall at No. 5.

SOFTBALL

Bluffton 12, Hilton Head High 0, 5 innings: Kim Kirby went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Bobcats in their season opener.

Jordyn Parker and Lilli Otten chipped in two hits apiece for Bluffton.

The Bobcats return to action Wednesday against visiting Thomas Heyward Academy.

Battery Creek 29, Whale Branch 5: Winning pitcher Tori Hill struck out six and helped her own cause at the plate with a home run and a double.

The Dolphins' Augusta Shubert chipped in a triple and three doubles, and Laura Carter added a pair of triples.

Now 1-0, Battery Creek hosts Garrett Tech on Wednesday.

JV: Whale Branch 9, Battery Creek 7

GIRLS SOCCER

Porter-Gaud 2, Hilton Head Christian 1: Lexi Lainhart tied the score with a first-half goal for the Eagles, but Tahirih Nesmith scored the second of her two goals in the 50th minute to sink Hilton Head Christian.

Meghan Gillis saved a penalty shot as goalkeeper for the Eagles (1-3).

Hilton Head Christian travels to Whale Branch on Thursday.
