TWO HOOP SHOOT WINNERS ADVANCE

Two Hilton Head Island elementary school students have advanced to the regional level of the annual Hoop Shoot competition sponsored by the Order of Elks.

Sponsored by the Bluffton Elks, Hilton Head Prep's Ella Clark and Jake Richardson of Hilton Head Island School for the Creative Arts won their respective divisions in the state level Saturday at Lugoff-Elgin High School.

Clark won the girls 8-9 division and Richardson took first in the boys 8-9, qualifying for the regional contest to be held March 16 in Valdosta, Ga. The reigonal event also will have the state-level winners from Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida.

Zoe Baker of Hilton Head Island Middle School finished second in the girls 12-13 division at Saturday's state competition.

KUNZ 2ND AT SAVANNAH TENNIS TOURNAMENT

Hilton Head Island's Nicholas Kunz made it to the finals of the $50,000 Savannah Challenger Wildcard Tournament before falling in three sets to Mark Oljaca of Bradenton, Fla.

Kunz took the first set, 6-2, but Oljaca -- who played at the University of South Florida before turning professional in 2010 -- rallied to win the final two sets, 6-1, 6-2.

The win gives Oljaca a wildcard entry into the qualifying draw for the $50,000 Savannah Challenger benefitting America's Second Harvest, which begins April 20 at Franklin Creek Tennis Center on Skidaway Island. The $50,000 Savannah Challenger is a USTA Pro Circuit event.

HILTON HEAD RUGBY PLAYING IN SAVANNAH SATURDAY
