A 51-year-old man has been charged with stealing from an elderly woman in Beaufort.

Ross Stanley Redler was arrested on charges of exploitation of a vulnerable adult and financial-transaction card fraud.

Redler took advantage of a 77-year-old woman of diminished capacity by talking her into allowing him to use her ATM card and withdrawing $729 from her account, according to Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy.

Redler is at the Beaufort County Detention Center; bail had not been set Tuesday.
