There's only a few days left to vote for Beaufort in a national competition, and Beaufort Mayor Billy Keyserling has emailed residents reminding them to vote.
Beaufort could be named the "Happiest Seaside Town" by "Coastal Living" magazing if it earns enough votes. Voters can vote every hour for their favored town online until Thursday.
In an email, Keyserling says winning the title could mean "free advertising" for local businesses and non-profit organizations.
"The city will soon distribute about $190,000 in accomodations tax dollars, which is not nearly what our businesses and non-profit organizations need to market outside of a fifty-mile radius," Keyserling wrote. "We have a huge advertising opportunity. Let's not miss it!"
Last week, Beaufort was in the lead according to the Coastal Living website. This week, the website has hidden vote totals for the 10 towns nominated for the title.
Results will be announced May 15 on coastalliving.com and in the magazine's June issue.
