This afternoon is wet, and heavier rains are possible tonight. Plus, more showers -- with some thunder -- are on the way Tuesday. The rain should be done by about 7 p.m. Tuesday. Then, we'll have drier, cooler air through the week and into the weekend.

With so much rain, rivers in Georgia continue to rise. Four monitored watersheds are now at minor flood stage, one --- Reidsville on the Ohoopee --- is expected to rise by week's end to moderate flood stage. As our record-setting rains continue for another 24 hours, the problem will continue to get worse before improving by week's end.

If you live near a river, or cross a river or creek regularly in your daily schedule, pay extra attention to changes and possible road closures, especially on county roads. The good news is that no more rain is expected for the rest of the week. And there's more good news: these rains are percolating into the aquifers, replenishing them quickly and helping to end our drought conditions. Trees in your neighborhood will start to strengthen with the renewed water table, and they will now be able to possibly withstand any spring or summer thunderstorms. So the gray, wet weather stinks, and there are short-term hazards for many of us. But in the long-term, the rain is very beneficial.
