Habitat project needs help to become reality

info@islandpacket.comFebruary 25, 2013

I was delighted and excited when Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity announced a project to build affordable housing on Hilton Head Island.

After traveling to volunteer in Ridgeland for almost five years, it's wonderful to be nearing the start of construction on Hilton Head. In addition to providing approximately 40 units of affordable housing, this project will bring water and sewer service to contiguous landowners for the first time.

Habitat is in the middle of raising funds for The Glen, the new project on the island. This new neighborhood consists of 14 acres donated by the Town of Hilton Head Island. Habitat is required to raise money for infrastructure and other building site preparations. The participation and support of the entire Hilton Head-Bluffton community will make the dream of simple, decent housing for people who live and work on Hilton Head Island possible.

How many local residents are aware of this worthwhile project and its magnitude? How many will step forward and offer a hand up, not a hand out, to their neighbors? The Hilton Head-Bluffton community is noted for its generosity. I urge you to become involved in making The Glen a reality by joining other local residents in funding infrastructure for The Glen and its neighbors.
