Three local students have advanced to the state competition in the annual Hoop Shoot Contest.

Six students from the local contest, which was sponsored by the Bluffton Elks, advanced to the district competition held recently in Charleston. Of those six, three won their age division and two more finished runner-up.

Winning the district event were Hilton Head Prep's Ella Clark (8-9 girls division), Hilton Head Christian's Jake Richardson (8-9 boys) and Hilton Head Island Middle School's Zoe Baker (12-13 girls).

Clark, Richardson and Baker advanced to the state competition, which was held this weekend at Lugoff-Elgin High School.

Second-place finishers at the district event were Okatie Elementary's Wilson Mullis (10-11 boys) and McCracken Middle School's Jai X. Morrow (12-13 boys).
