Only six players managed to break 70 on Friday in a wet and windy third round of the eGolf Tour's Oldfield Open, allowing Brent Witcher to keep the lead for the third straight day after an even-par 72 at Oldfield Country Club in Okatie.
Witcher had four bogeys and four birdies -- including a 30-foot putt for birdie on No. 18 -- to remain at 11-under par going into the final round. He has a one-shot lead over Jack Fields, who was one of the golfers to break 70 on Friday, carding a 68. Fields, of Southern Pines, N.C., played the final 13 holes at 5 under to get to 10-under 206 for the tournament.
The best round of the day came from Lanto Griffin, of Blacksburg, Va., who made seven birdies for a 6-under 66 that pushed him into third place at 8-under 208.
Four players are tied for fourth at 5 under, including Chris Epperson of Hilton Head Island.
Final-round play will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, but thunderstorms are in the forecast.
The tournament is open to the public and admission is free.
