The USC Beaufort women's golf team shaved five shots off its first-round score and maintained its position in sixth place on the final day of the SCAD Spring Invitational on Tuesday at the Club at Savannah Harbor.
The 12th-ranked Sand Sharks followed up Monday's team score of 327 with a round of 322 for a 36-hole total of 649. Host SCAD Savannah, the No. 2 team in the NAIA preseason rankings, won the team title with a score of 615, three shots better than NCAA Division II Lander and seven shots clear of No. 8 Lee (Tenn.). No. 22 Coastal Georgia (636) finished fourth, and No. 9 Northwood (645) was fifth.
Senior Kelli Nakano (77-81--158) was USCB's top finisher, tying for 10th, and senior Kaitlin O'Sullivan (82-79--161) of Hilton Head Island High tied for 20th. Sophomore Samantha O'Donnell (83-86--169) of Hilton Head Island finished 40th, and junior Kendra Collins (85-85--170) of Bluffton and senior Phyllis Langley (93-77--170) tied for 41st.
Sophomore Tori DeGroodt (82-80--162) tied for 25th competing as an individual. Also playing as individuals, sophomore Lindsey Mapes (86-91--177) tied for 53rd and freshman Hayley Miller (91-89--180) finished 58th.
The Sand Sharks' next action is March 4-5 at the Armstrong Atlantic Pirate Invitational at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga.
