The last of the three Beaufort County School District superintendent candidates will answer questions from the public and make her case for being hired at a forum tonight.
Gloria Davis, the current superintendent of Decatur, Ill. public schools, will speak after tonight's Board of Education meeting at the Bluffton library, 120 Palmetto Way. The forum is expected to begin at 7:30 p.m.
The school board's regular meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the library. The agenda includes updates for board members on the progress of a community committee created to find short- and long-term solutions to crowding in Bluffton secondary schools, an update on Durham bus maintenance, and an expected vote to authorize several grant applications.
After the board meeting ends, Davis will give a short opening statement, and then take questions from the audience. The forum will be broadcast on the County Channel, which is Channel 113 or 9 for Hargray customers, Channel 63 for Time Warner Cable customers, and Channel 2 for Comcast customers.
It will also be live-streamed on the County Chanel's website at www.co.beaufort.sc.us.
The forum hosts will alternate between audience members' and TV viewers' questions. TV viewers can ask Davis questions by emailing them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Attendees will be able to turn in hard-copy comment forms at the end of the forum. TV viewers, or anyone else, can submit online comment forms on the district website before 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Comments after the 24-hour window closes should be sent directly to Board of Education members.
Davis has been the superintendent of the Decatur school district since 2006.
Her supporters say she's increased the rigor of that district's curriculum, boosted graduation rates, implemented a professional-development program, and increased district scores on standardized tests.

This is the last of three forums for the candidates. The school board hopes to have a new superintendent hired by the first week in March, though whoever is selected will probably not start until July 1.
