AT&T has activated a new cell site on Marshland Road to improve coverage and increase wireless speeds on Hilton Head Island, according to a company spokeswoman.

The site provides 4G HSPA-plus service.

"A stronger wireless network is critical for economic growth," Mayor Drew Laughlin said in a Wednesday news release.

Hilton Head Town Council eased regulations for new cell towers in July.
