Lowcountry groups are joining in a global campaign today to stop violence against women and girls with a dance exhibition and community awareness event at the Technical College of the Lowcountry.

Each Valentine's Day, people around the world hold events to protest violence against women. According to some estimates, 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped in her lifetime. Now in its 15th year, organizers are calling the V-Day movement "One Billion Rising" and hoping today will be the largest day of action in its history.

Members of Hope Haven of the Lowcountry, Citzens Opposed to Domestic Abuse, the University of South Carolina-Beaufort and TCL will meet at 1 p.m. on TCL's Beaufort Campus outside of Building 12. The event is free and open to the public.

The V-Day movement was founded by Eve Ensler.
