National Signing Day came and went, and a pair of Battery Creek High School linemen became nervous.
They need not have worried, just needed a little patience. Everything came together Tuesday, when offensive lineman Justin Frazier and defensive lineman Michael Harbin signed with Limestone.
Harbin and Frazier were part of a senior class that won a Class 2-A playoff game this past season and helped the Dolphins through some rough years in Class 3-A.
"They learned through all the turmoil from their freshman to senior years," Battery Creek coach Jim Shuman said. "They learned what it takes to be successful and to continue to be successful."
Shuman sent Limestone coaches film a few weeks after the end of the 2012 season. The Saints will begin football in 2014 as an NCAA Division II program. Harbin visited at the beginning of the month with Beaufort High running back JaClay Mixon. Frazier plans to visit the school with Shuman after the coach is done with wrestling season.
The opportunity to help build a program appealed to both. And for both, the Saints showed the most serious interest.
Frazier said recruiting coordinator Drew Anthony was always available from first contact back in December.
"He's not one of those coaches that you text and call a hundred billion times, and he won't give you an answer,' Frazier said. "He's always there to answer every question I have."
Frazier said Limestone coaches liked his surge off the ball, his contact with his blocks and his footwork. The senior had interest from Charleston Southern, Newberry and Western Carolina. He said he's fully recovered from a left knee injury that caused him to miss two games of his senior season.
Harbin said coaches liked his aggressiveness, his quickness off the ball and his personality. He'll play defensive tackle, as he did with the Dolphins.
The year without football will be spent getting stronger in the weight room, Harbin and Frazier said. Harbin saw the foundation of the new football stadium during his tour and dorms that will house the inaugural football team.
"I never thought I'd be here signing to college," Harbin said. "It's one step closer to my dreams."
