Many reasons the GOP has earned 'stupid' label

info@islandpacket.comFebruary 12, 2013

Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana recently said the GOP has got to "stop being the stupid party." I agree for reasons listed below and some others related to campaign funding:

  • Republicans seem to want to reduce entitlements, which help poor people. Humanitarianism is more important than greed.

  • Many Republicans don't believe in global warming, which scientists have shown to be true. Politicians should trust the scientists' judgment and vote to combat this problem.

  • Many Republicans don't believe in gay and lesbian marriages, but science has proved that our sexual preference is biologically determined. Politicians should not pass laws that discriminate against gays and lesbians.

  • The tea party appears to be selfish, unwilling to negotiate, not really welcome in the mainstream Republican Party and a pain in the butt to Democrats and to Congress in passing legislation. Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin are bottom-of-the barrel of politicians who support the tea party.

  • Republicans signed a pledge with Grover Nordquist many years ago to not raise taxes of any kind and in turn they receive lots of campaign money for their effort. Their pledge of allegiance is not to our country, but rather to the rich businessmen who support their campaigns.

  • Gun control is another issue with Republicans, probably because the National Rifle Assocation supports their campaigns. It is not a Second Amendment issue. When that was written, guns fired only one shot. Individuals should not own assault weapons that were designed for military combat.
