Beaufort resident Grant Wilms and his model ship recently made an appearance on A&E's "Shipping Wars."

The show follows six independent truckers who travel the country shipping delicate, rare or just plain hard-to-ship items. Wilms wanted to ship a model of the HMS Victory, a ship famous for its role in the Battle of Trafalgar where the British Royal Navy stopped the French navy and Spanish navy in 1805.

Wilms had the model built by Michael Radencich in Weatherby, Mo., over a 10-year period. The model, which is 1-700th of the ship’s size, weighs about 50 pounds and is 6 feet long, 3 feet wide and 4 feet tall. Wilms said on the show the model is so intricate that all of the rigging works.

The show starts by pitting the truckers against each other in a bidding war for the shipping job. Jennifer Brennan won the war with a bid of $1,600, but soon wonders if it was worth it when she discovers just how delicate the model is.

"It’ll break if I blink too hard," she says on the show.

In the end, Brennan gets the model in one piece to Wilms.

The show originally aired Jan. 30, according to the A&E website, but was re-aired Monday night. The full episode, which also features a shipment of dinosaur fossils from North Carolina to Montana, can be watched online.
