Man beaten, robbed at Bluffton apartments

A 29-year-old man reported that he was hit with a block and a belt and then robbed Sunday at Simmons Cay Apartments in Bluffton, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

He was drinking with a friend in woods beside the apartments when five men approached at about 7 p.m., a news release said. One of man asked for money. When the victim said he had none, the suspect threw a concrete block at him, knocking him to the ground.

The five men, described only as black males, hit the victim with a belt several times and took an undisclosed amount of cash before running in different directions, according to the release.

The victim's injuries did not require medical attention. His friend was unharmed.
