Name: Katie Vaught

Husband: Ben

Town: Bluffton

Children: Talia, 8; Ben, 5; Henry, 8 months

Occupation: Stay-at-home mom who works part time at the National Alliance on Mental Illness and part time with her husband's carpentry business, Vaught Construction

Go-to dinner: Barbecue chicken in the crockpot

Biggest pet peeve: When the dogs eat the children's toys

Hobbies: Going to the beach, reading, arts and crafts, and cooking

Activities: Active member of Grace Community Church on Hilton Head Island

Favorite mommy moment: Vaught has fond memories of when her husband and two older children walked into the hospital room after Henry was born. "The reality of the family of five, and everybody's got big smiles, and everyone is kissing the baby," she said. "That was the sweetest thing."

Most challenging moment: Getting the kids out of bed and ready for school. "The mornings tend to be when someone decides they've had it with the school uniform," she said. "On the weekends they're up at like quarter to 7, but during the week it seems like a constant, 'Hurry up. Hurry up. Hurry up.' "

Stress reliever: Vaught has lunch with a group of girlfriends once a week. "We just sit there and talk, listen to each other, laugh and pray for what everybody's got going on in their lives," Vaught said. "It's a good way to recharge a little bit ... and go back out into the world a better person."

Advice for other moms: "Try to have a lot of fun with your kids," she said. "Do the things they like to do with them. That seems to make my kids genuinely happy." She said her kids love Friday nights because the whole family spends time together either watching a movie or dancing to the Wii. "They just love that."
